What's the function of snapshot in Cassandra? -

However I checked about the Datastax document , I am still confused about a snapshot in cassandra . What is the function or main purpose of the Snapshot of

snapshot folder, I get some subfolders named in this conference:

< Pre> 1426256545571-tablename

What does the number mean at the beginning? Anyway, I need an easy way to know what is snapshot .

Number is the number of MS from era ( timestamp ) snapshot is just a local Backup is it automatically for some types of operation such as trunetate (in case of accident and want to undo it).

They are very fast and have not brought any extra disk space to the front since just a hard link for unchanging data files. Ultimately, you want to clean them up, though there are contractions to recover the disc. You can disable the auto_snapshot option in cassandra.yaml if you do not want them any more, it is likely that you will see them while doing the repair.
