emacs can't open files outside current directory -

So here is an interesting error ... there is a special folder on my desktop (HDREE, which is connected to university-wide Backup system was installed automatically by IT) where there is difficulty in opening emacs files. Some directories within HDRAMACs can not open files above the current directory. For example,

  cd ~ / hdrive / directory / emacs ../another_directory/file

returns an error message

emacs: `get_current_dir_name 'failed: such a file or directory

I instead of trying

  emacs ~ / hdrive / another_directory File / Files>

The files are not missing and are not corrupted, because the use of cat instead of eMACS in these commands works properly and I have this problem with all the directories in HDRE Does not exist - sometimes Directory of the problem is also compatible directory with be without a subdirectory - but this problem.

There is no one .dir- Local people anywhere in HDRE, so that things can not be messed up.

Any thoughts?
