.htaccess - Mod-Rewrite for large sites...how much is too much? -

I have a lot of different functionality ... and I really want to fill a pretty url. The problem is that my mod-Rewrite has become a monster of its own ... Most sections require different URLs, directory depths, etc.

How many rules are too much? And what is normal?

Is it better to rewrite the main structural parts of the URL, and then just nail on $ _GET values?

I think the best part is that your application parsing the URL and mod_rewrite only applies to your application Is responsible for the requests. This will keep your rules at ease and keep the responsibility in your application because your application should know best what the URL means.
